Xetulul Guatemala Theme Park




Theme Parks are always a fun adventure. If you want truly unique theme park experience though you need to go to a theme park in a foreign country. A great theme park for amusement park enthusiast is in Guatemala. If you go to Xetulul you will have a very unique experience worth telling others at home about when you come back.
Xetulul is the only theme park in Guatemala and the only one in Central America. There is a water park though called Xocomil right next door owned by the same company. Xetulul is located in the not often frequented Retalhuleu Department. Both parks get one million visitors a year and are the top tourist destination in the country. Xetulul is off the beaten path but is a major tourist destination for Guatemalans.
While you might expect that a theme park in Central America would not stand up to what they have in the US Xetulul stands up pretty well to theme parks in the US. One thing that is really amazing about the park is that they do a great job with the overall theme. Far to many parks do not worry about theme as much as they should. Parks often throw down a big metal thing and have no story behind it. Attention to theme is what makes Disney so great. While Xetulul may not be on par with a Disney park it does an excellent job.
The theme here is world landmarks with an emphasis on Central America. Tourist will see many of the sites they recently saw on their vacations such as a miniature version of the Jaguar pyramid at Tikal which you may recognize from the planet of Yavin in Star Wars. Other famous landmarks outside of Central America are included such as the Moulin Rouge and Trevi Fountain.
While a theme is what separates an amusement park from a theme park what people come to parks for is rides. You would probably not expect much in terms of rides from Guatemala but Xetulul will surprise you. While the park does not have many rides some of the ones it has are world class. The park only has two roller coasters but one of them is one of only 6 roller coasters in the world to have 8 or more inversions. Avalanche the premier attraction is one of the best roller coasters you will ride anywhere in the world.
Other rides include the only two story merry go round in Central America. The park also features many other usual park rides such as a log ride. The log ride is typical of most simple ones except the lift hill is very fast which is nice as it lowers the wait in line and it cuts down on the boring time waiting to slowly go up the hill before the big drop.
One of the best things about the park is the price. You can come here for only $12 for adults. Food prices are also cheaper than theme parks north of the border.
If you want to go somewhere off the beaten path in Guatemala then you should Xetulul. The park is also great for those that love theme parks.

If you like Dark Rides then you will love Vienna's Prater Amusement Park. Prater is located in the Austrian capital of Vienna. Prater is similar to New York's Central Park. Prater is a large park with normal park amenities. It also features a variety of restaurants. What sets Prater apart from Central Park though is the Amusement Park which is similar to many European and Asian fun fairs but on a much larger scale. Prater is like a permanent county fair on steroids. The park has a number of attractions that are large carnival rides along with permanent rides. Retired Travel Hammer Musuem Haines, Alaska

On our Alaska cruise we stopped in the small town of Haines, Alaska. The town might be small but it has what is likely the largest collection of hammers in the world. This amazing collection can be seen at the Hammer Museum. The museum is easy to find just look for the giant hammer standing up in the yard. The yard itself is like an outdoor art museum with hammers. Entrance to the museum is $5. Kids 12 and under are free. If you want to visit all 3 museums in Haines you can save 20% by getting a 3 in 1 ticket. The museum is open from May through September from Monday to Saturday. The rest of the year it can be opened by appointment. Even if you are not interested in tools and hammers there is sure to be something in this museum you will find interesting.
